Dr. Sifu Nadine Shozuya is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, Licensed Acupuncturist, and Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner. She grew up in Hawaii, where she was exposed to the potent medicines of nature. Throughout her time in California, she has used her medicinal skills to heal thousands of people all across the South Bay and beyond. She founded Scholar Warrior Community Center in 2001 and believes that holistic healing should be available to all.

Karen “Shakti” Ikeda, HOPE, MS is a senior student of Dr. Nadine Shozuya, training in Tui Na and Chinese herbology. Karen was born in Hawaii, where she grew up immersed in the wisdom of the natural world. A retired mechanical engineer, Karen’s intellect and practical skills make her an excellent Eastern physical therapist and Eastern herbal pharmacist. Today, Karen applies her wisdom and intelligence to the healing arts, which she uses to bring happiness and relief to the patients she treats. She assists in patient lifestyle education.

The YMCA of Los Angeles has been making a positive impact in our communities for over 140 years. Our 26 branches stretch across over 100 miles of Los Angeles County, from Antelope Valley to San Pedro. Our membership community is 264,500 strong. Membership is open to all, with financial assistance available to those who cannot afford it. This year, the LA Y helped 1 out of 3 member families with financial assistance.

We cannot do our work alone, extending our work with over 200 community partners across the county, including schools, hospitals, clinics, cities and other civic organizations.
